Wheel of Fortune

Roulette is one of the most popular casino games throughout Europe and America. Players are attracted to Roulette because it is strictly a game of chance, requiring no player input once the wheel starts spinning. But eventhough roulette is strictly a game of chance, there are certain tips players should recognize in order to maximize their odds of winning.

You will maximize your enjoyment of roulette if you are familiar with the multitude of bets available on the roulette table. By playing various strategies, you will be able to break up the monotony of betting the standard black or red. By toying with straight bets, flirting with corner bets, and messing with dozens of bets, you can experience the thrill of winning without breaking your wallet.

The most obvious bet on the roulette table is the inside bet. To place an inside bet on the roulette table you simply put your chip within the box of a particular number and hope for the best. Inside bets are the most attractive because of the high payout (35-1). However, players will quickly learn that to play the inside bet requires a hefty bank roll, because you'll need staying power to play for occasional big win.

A bet that is kinder to your stack 'o chips is the straight bet. Straight bets are any bets made outside the 36 numbered squares, including the first 12, second 12, third 12 and the three rows labeled 2 to 1, which are the dozen bets. These bets are referred to as the "dozen bets" simply because these wagers are played on the 12 numbers that make up the row. Similarly, the first, second and third 12 are wagers placed on the first, second, and third 12 number ets on the table. These first two straight bets pay the winner at 2 to 1.

Other straight bets are the 1 to 18 and 19-36 bets, the even/odd bet and the well known black/red bet. This second set of straight bets pay even money. The attraction of these bets is that you can play these bets for a long time, with a limited bankroll. And with these bet's you will find that you win 45% of the time, making it a very satisfying way to bet.

Some of the less obvious bets on the roulette table include split bets(17-1), street bets(11-1), and square bets(8-1). These bets let you wager on groups or combinations of numbers, spreading your bets over several numbers. This increases your chances of a win, yet simultaneously reduces your payout odds relatively. For example, a split bet is made by placing your chip on the line that separates two individual numbers allowing either number to bring you a win, but split bets pay 17-1 as opposed to the straight bets that pay 35-1, on the inside.

Other advanced bets are the street bets and square bets. A street bet pays 11-1 and allows your chip to cover three numbers in a vertical route. To make the street bet simply place your bet on the horizontal line that runs across the top of your thee numbers. A square bet, also referred to as a corner bet, allows players to bet on a block of four connected numbers. The bet is made by placing your chip at the intercepting corner of the four boxes, square bets, which pay 8-1, are very popular becuase they increase the odds of hitting your particular number. But realize that because they only pay 8-1 they do not actually increase your statistical advantage.

If square bets don't cover enough for you, the casinos have devised a five-number line bet. This bet pays 6-1 and covers the only five number grouping on the table. The five-number bet is played by positioning your chip on the intersecting line between the 00 and the 3. Although five-number bets are quite attractive because they cover 5 numbers, the bet actually favors the house by 7.9%, making it the worst bet on the table.

For gamblers that really want to make their chips go a long way, roulette provides the double street bet. This bet is made by placing your chip between two adjacent streets and covers all six numbers on those streets. Double street bets pay 5-1.

The final trick to remember is that the roulette wheels may be divided into 37(European) or 38(American) blocks, and whether there is one 0(European) or a 0 and 00(American). The European tables give the house 2.7%, compared to the American tables whichh give the house 5.6%. So play the European version if they have it.

Like always, experience is the best teacher. Go online and look around, try to play for fun before you start to lose your money. Start off small and work your way toward the bigger bets as you become more proficient. You'll find that roulette is as exciting a game as you'll find anywhere, because of it's non-stop action and frequent wins. It will only be a few hours before you know every inch of the table.
